Castlebrae Community Campus

The new £28M Castlebrae Community Campus in Edinburgh is a 700 capacity replacement for Castlebrae Community High School, with the potential to be extended to 1,200. It opened to pupils and staff in April 2022, being successfully delivered for the City of Edinburgh Council by its development partner Hub South East and main contractor Morrison Construction. It has been built in the heart of Craigmillar, next to the East Neighbourhood Centre and library, forming one of the final pieces of a 20 year long regeneration project to improve housing stock and community facilities in the area. The new Castlebrae was developed after extensive consultation with educationalists, service users and the local community.

The name of the new school, Castlebrae Community Campus, really says it all as it’s right in the heart of Craigmillar and is there for all the community to use. It’s been a long road for the school to reach this milestone and it couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of staff, students and the wider community and support of key partners.

The campus shows our commitment to creating a first-class learning environment for all our children in the city and one that showcases what can be achieved when you build an exciting, inspirational and creative hub for the whole community.

Cllr Joan Griffiths, Education, Children & Families Convener, City of Edinburgh Council
